Dr. C. G. English School is affiliated to Gujarat State Board (GSHSEB). The medium of instruction is English. We follow the Gujarat Board prescribed curriculum as per the government guidelines. Our curriculum is focused on the holistic development of the students that prepares them to meet the challenges of their life as well as equip them with the skills to meet the requirements of the 21st century. It focuses on the student’s intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative and spiritual potential. We believe that the traditional way of teaching has become outdated where the teacher is the central figure, the “sage on the stage”, and transmits knowledge to the students, who simple memorise the information and later reproduce it on an exam. According to the current theory of constructivism, the knowledge must be constructed by each student through the process of trying to make sense of new information in terms of what the student already knows. Students use their prior experiences and their own existing knowledge to make sense of the new material. In this new approach, students are at the centre and the teacher acts as a “guide on the side”.
Pre-Primary Section (Playgroup to Senior K.G.)
These are the most important years in a child’s school life as they mark the first transition from home to group experience outside of the family and to a new physical environment. The pre-primary classes work on the philosophy of play-based learning. The curriculum in the early years ensures the child’s physical, emotional, social and cognitive development. A variety of activities like colouring, drawing, writing, cutting, pasting, dancing, music, clay modelling and story-telling are included to develop various skills.
Primary Section (Standard I to V)
Once a child transitions from pre-primary to primary, learning happens through hands-on activities in both curricular and co-curricular areas. The curriculum is designed for the children to acquire literacy, numeracy, creativity and communication skills. The curriculum ensures that the child enjoys learning and develops desire to continue learning. These are important years for the children to build values that will make them responsible citizens and hence the curriculum puts great emphasis on value education in an integrated way.
Secondary and Higher Secondary Section (Standard IX to XII)
The curriculum in these classes is focused on preparing students for the board examination following the broad guidelines set by GSHSEB. The students are equipped with the skills that will help them successfully transition from school to college to master the skills in their area of interest. The students are supported with career counselling to help them recognise their strengths and areas of interest. The students re exposed to various career paths to make them take informed decisions regarding their future.
